Text size:
The voice of a great people, as of a very great wind, as of a storm of much fire being carried through the wilderness.
And I said in my heart, Where then will God judge him?
A voice I heard in Jerusalem, city of holiness
My loins were shattered at the hearing; my knees were loosened; my heart was afraid; my bones were troubled like flax.
I said, they will direct their ways in righteousness.
I considered the judgments of God from the creation of heaven and earth, and I justified God in his judgments from of old
God uncovered their sins before the sun; all the earth knew the righteous judgments of God.
In subterranean hidden places their lawless deeds, in provocation, son with mother and father with daughter were mingled together
Each one committed adultery with the wife of his neighbor; they made for themselves covenants with an oath concerning these things.
They were seizing the holy things of God, as though there were no heir redeeming.
they were trampling the altar of the Lord with every uncleanness, and with a discharge of blood they defiled the sacrifices like profane flesh
They did not leave out a sin that they did not do, beyond the nations.
Therefore God mixed for them a spirit of wandering; he gave them to drink a cup of unmixed wine for drunkenness
He brought the one from the uttermost of the earth; the one striking mightily he judged the war against Jerusalem and its land.
The rulers of the earth met him with joy; they said to him, Your way is blessed; come, enter in peace.
They made rough roads level from his entrance; they opened gates against Jerusalem; they crowned its walls.
He entered as a father into the house of his sons; with peace he set his feet with great security.
He seized her tower-battlements and the wall of Jerusalem, because God had brought him with safety in their wandering.
He destroyed their rulers, and every wise man in counsel; he poured out the blood of those who dwell in Jerusalem like water of impurity.
He led away their sons and their daughters, whom they had begotten in defilement
They did according to their uncleannesses, just as their fathers defiled Jerusalem and the things made holy to the name of God
God was justified in his judgments among the nations of the earth, and the holy ones of God were like lambs in innocence among them
Praised is the Lord who judges all the earth in his righteousness
Behold now, O God, you have shown us your judgment; in your righteousness our eyes saw your judgments, O God
We have justified your honored name forever, because you are the God of righteousness, judging Israel in discipline
Turn back, O God, your mercy upon us, and have compassion on us.
Gather the dispersion of Israel with mercy and kindness, for your faithfulness is with us.
And we stiffened our neck, and you are our disciplinarian.
Do not overlook us, O God, lest the nations swallow us up, as one not being who redeems us.
And you, our God, from the beginning, and our hope is upon you, Lord
And we will not withdraw from you, because your judgments against us are good.
For us and for our children is the favor forever, Lord, our Savior; we shall not be shaken any more, forever, for a time.
Praised is the Lord in his judgments, in the mouth of the holy ones, and blessed is Israel by the Lord forever
