Nebuchadnezzar the king to all the peoples, tribes, and languages, those dwelling in all the earth: peace be multiplied to you.
The signs and the wonders which the Most High God did with me, it seemed good before me to declare to you
How great and mighty is his kingdom, an eternal kingdom, and his authority is unto generation and generation.
I, Nebuchadnezzar, was prospering in my house and flourishing
I saw a dream, and it frightened me, and I was troubled on my bed, and the visions of my head troubled me.
And by me a decree was established to bring in before me all the wise men of Babylon, so that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream
And the enchanters, magicians, gazarenes, Chaldeans, entered, and I told the dream before them, and they did not make known to me its interpretation.
until Daniel came, whose name was Beltshazzar, according to the name of my god, who has a holy spirit of God in himself; and I told the dream before him
Balthasar, chief of the enchanters, whom I knew that a holy spirit of God is in you and every mystery is not too hard for you, hear the vision of the dream which I saw and tell me its interpretation.
Upon my bed I was looking, and behold, a tree in the middle of the earth, and its height was great
The tree grew great and became strong, and its height reached to heaven, and its breadth to the ends of all the earth.
its leaves were beautiful, and its fruit was abundant, and food for all was in it, and under it the wild beasts were dwelling, and in its branches the birds of heaven were dwelling, and from it all flesh was fed
I was beholding in the vision of the night on my bed, and behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from heaven
And he cried out with strength and thus said: Cut down the tree and tear out its branches and shake off its leaves and scatter its fruit; let the beasts be shaken from beneath it and the birds from its branches.
Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the ground, and in a bond of iron and bronze, and in the grass outside and in the dew of heaven he shall lie, and his portion shall be with the beasts in the grass of the earth
His heart shall be changed from men, and a beast’s heart shall be given to him, and seven times shall be changed upon him
By the decree of the watchers, and the matter of the holy ones is the request, in order that the living may know that the Most High is Lord of the kingdom of men, and to whomever he may please he will give it, and he will raise up over it the lowliest of men.
This is the dream that I saw, I Nebuchadnezzar the king, and you, Belteshazzar, speak the interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make its interpretation known to me, but you, Daniel, are able, because a holy spirit of God is in you
Then Daniel, whose name was Baltasar, was stunned for about an hour, and his thoughts troubled him. And the king answered and said, Baltasar, let not the dream and its interpretation dismay you. And Baltasar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to those who hate you, and its interpretation to your enemies.
The tree which you saw, the one that grew great and the one that was strong, whose height reached to heaven and whose breadth to all the earth
and its leaves were flourishing, and its fruit was abundant, and food for all was in it; beneath it the wild beasts dwelt, and in its branches the birds of heaven made their nests
You are the king, because you have been magnified and have grown strong, and your greatness has been magnified and has reached to heaven, and your dominion to the ends of the earth
And because the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from heaven and said, Tear out the tree and destroy it; nevertheless leave the shoot of its roots in the earth, and in a bond of iron and bronze and in the grass outside and in the dew of heaven it shall lodge, and with the wild beasts its portion shall be until seven times are changed over him.
This is its interpretation, O king, and the interpretation of the Most High is what has come upon my lord the king
and you shall be driven out from among men, and with the wild beasts shall be your dwelling, and they shall feed you with grass like an ox, and from the dew of heaven you shall lodge, and seven times shall pass over you until you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men, and to whomever he pleases he will give it
And whereas they said, Leave the stump of the roots of the tree, your kingdom will remain to you, from when you may know the heavenly authority.
Therefore, king, let my counsel be pleasing to you: and redeem your sins by alms and your injustices by compassion on the poor; perhaps God will be long-suffering toward your trespasses.
All these things came upon King Nebuchadnezzar.
after twelve months, walking upon the palace of his kingdom in Babylon
The king answered and said, Is not this Babylon the great, which I built as a royal house by the might of my strength, for the honor of my glory?
While the word was still in the mouth of the king, a voice from heaven came, saying to you, Nebuchadnezzar king, the kingdom has passed away from you
and they shall drive you out from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts, and they shall feed you with grass like an ox, and seven times shall be changed upon you until you know that the Most High rules over the kingdom of men, and to whomever he may seem good he gives it
At that very hour the word was fulfilled upon Nabuchodonosor, and he was driven away from among men, and he was eating grass like oxen, and from the dew of heaven his body was bathed, until his hair grew long like lions’ and his nails like birds’ claws
And after the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Most High and praised and glorified the one living unto the age, because his authority is an eternal authority, and his kingdom is from generation to generation.
And all those dwelling on the earth were accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will in the power of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth, and there is no one who will resist his hand and say to him, What have you done?
At that time my understanding returned to me, and I came back to the honor of my kingdom, and my form returned to me, and my tyrants and my nobles sought me, and I was strengthened over my kingdom, and greater majesty was added to me
Now therefore I Nebuchadnezzar praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because all his works are true and his ways are judgment, and those walking in arrogance he is able to humble.
