And the sons of Israel again did the evil before the Lord, and the Lord handed them over into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

And there was a man from Saraa, from the tribe of Dan, and his name was Manoe, and his wife was barren and did not bear.

And an angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her, Behold now, you are barren and have not borne, and you will conceive and bear a son.

And now guard yourself and do not drink wine and strong drink and do not eat anything unclean

For behold, you shall conceive in the womb and bear a son, and no iron shall go up upon his head, for the boy shall be a consecrated Nazirite to God from the womb, and he himself shall begin to save Israel from the hand of the Philistines

And the woman came and said to her husband, saying, A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of an angel of God, very awesome; and I asked him where he was from, and he did not tell me his name.

And he said to me, Behold, you shall have in the womb and bear a son; and now drink no wine and no strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing, because the child will be a Nazirite of God from the womb until the day of his death.

And Manoe entreated the Lord and said, In me, O Lord, the man of God whom you sent to us, let him now come to us and enlighten us what we should do for the child that is being born.

And God listened to the voice of Manoe, and the angel of God came again to his wife as she was sitting in the field, and Manoe her husband was not with her

And the woman hurried and ran out and reported to her husband and said to him, Behold, the man who came to me on that day has appeared to me.

And Manoe rose up and went after his wife to the man, and he said to him, Are you the man who spoke to the woman? And the angel said, I am.

And Manoe said, Now then, when your word has come, what will be the ordinance of the boy and what his works?

And the angel of the Lord said to Manoe, let her beware of all the things that I said to the woman.

From all that comes forth from the vine she shall not eat, and wine and strong drink she shall not drink, and let her not eat anything unclean; let her keep all that I commanded her.

And Manoe said to the angel of the Lord, Let us constrain you now, and we will prepare before you a kid of the goats.

And the angel of the Lord said to Manoe, If you press me, I will not eat of your loaves, and if you make a burnt offering to the Lord, you shall offer it up, because Manoe did not know that he is the angel of the Lord.

And Manoe said to the angel of the Lord, What is your name, that when your word comes we may glorify you?

And the angel of the Lord said to him, Why do you ask this, my name? And it is wonderful.

And Manoe took the kid of the goats and the sacrifice and offered them up on the rock to the Lord, to the Lord doing wonders, and Manoe and his wife were looking on.

And it came to pass, when the flame went up from above the altar to heaven, that the angel of the Lord went up in the flame; and Manoe and his wife were beholding, and they fell on their faces to the ground.

And the angel of the Lord did not again appear to Manoe and to his wife. Then Manoe knew that he is an angel of the Lord.

And Manoe said to his wife, By death we shall die, because we have seen God.

And his wife said to him, If the Lord had wanted to put us to death, he would not have accepted from our hands a burnt offering and a sacrifice, and he would not have enlightened us by all these things, and he would not have made these things known to us.

And the woman bore a son and called his name Sampson, and the Lord blessed him, and the little child grew.

And the spirit of the Lord began to go with him in the camp of Dan, between Saraa and between Estaol.
