And king David was old, advanced in days, and they covered him with garments, but he was not warmed.
And his servants said, Let them seek for our lord the king a virgin, a young woman, and she shall stand before the king and shall be warming him and shall sleep with him, and our lord the king shall be warmed.
And they sought a beautiful young woman from all the border of Israel, and they found Abishag the Shunammite, and they brought her to the king.
And the young woman was very beautiful, and she was warming the king, and was ministering to him, and the king did not know her.
And Adonias son of Aggith exalted himself, saying, I will reign; and he made for himself chariots and horsemen and fifty men to run before him.
And his father had never rebuked him, saying, Why have you done this? And he also was very handsome in appearance, and she bore him after Abessalom.
And his words were with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they were helping after Adonijah.
And Zadok the priest and Benaiah son of Jehoiada and Nathan the prophet and Shimei and Rei and the mighty men of David were not with Adonijah
And Adonias sacrificed sheep and calves and lambs by the stone of Zoeleth, which was beside the spring of Rogel, and he called all his brothers and all the men of Judah, servants of the king.
and Nathan the prophet and Benaiah and the mighty men and Solomon his brother he did not call
And Nathan said to Bathsheba, mother of Solomon, saying, Have you not heard that Adonias the son of Haggith has reigned, and our lord David has not known it?
And now come, I will indeed counsel you with counsel, and rescue your life and the life of your son Solomon.
Come, go in to King David, and you shall say to him, saying, Did you not, my lord king, swear to your maidservant, saying, Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he himself shall sit on my throne? And why is it that Adonias has become king?
And behold, while you are still speaking there with the king, I also will enter after you, and I will fill in your words.
And Bathsheba went in to the king into the inner room, and the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering to the king.
And Bathsheba bowed and did obeisance to the king, and the king said, What is it to you?
And she said, My lord, king, you swore to your servant by the Lord your God, saying, Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he himself shall sit on my throne.
And now behold, Adonias has reigned, and you, my lord king, did not know it.
And he sacrificed calves and lambs and sheep in abundance, and he called all the sons of the king and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander of the force, but Solomon your servant he did not call.
And you, my lord king, the eyes of all Israel are toward you to tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him
And it shall be, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be sinners.
And behold, while she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.
And it was reported to the king, Behold, Nathan the prophet. And he entered before the king and bowed down to the king, before him, to the ground.
And Nathan said, My lord king, you yourself said, Adonias shall reign after me, and he himself shall sit on my throne.
For he has gone down today and sacrificed calves and lambs and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king and the rulers of the army and Abiathar the priest, and behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and they said, Let king Adonias live.
and me your servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and Solomon your servant he did not call
If this thing has happened through my lord the king, and you have not made known to your servant who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?
And David answered and said, Call Bathsheba to me. And she came in before the king and stood before him.
And the king swore and said, As the Lord lives, who redeemed my soul from every affliction.
For as I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel, saying, Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he himself shall sit on my throne in my place, so I will do this day.
And Bathsheba bowed on her face to the ground and did obeisance to the king and said, Let my lord king David live forever
And king David said, Call to me Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet and Benaiah son of Jehoiada. And they entered before the king.
And the king said to them, Take the servants of your lord with you, and put my son Solomon on my mule, and bring him down to Gihon.
And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there as king over Israel, and you shall sound the horn and say, Let King Solomon live.
and he shall sit on my throne, and he himself shall reign in my place, and I have commanded him to be for leader over Israel and Judah
And Benaiah son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, So be it; may the Lord God of my lord the king confirm it.
As the Lord was with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon and may he magnify his throne above the throne of my lord the king David
And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet and Benaiah son of Jehoiada and the Cherethite and the Pelethite went down and they made Solomon ride on King David’s mule and they brought him to Gihon
And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the tent and anointed Solomon, and he blew the trumpet with the ram’s horn, and all the people said, Let King Solomon live.
And all the people went up after him, and they were dancing in dances and rejoicing with great rejoicing, and the earth was split at their voice.
And Adonias and all his invited ones heard it, and they themselves had just finished eating, and Joab heard the sound of the horn and said, What is the sound of the city being in an uproar?
While he was still speaking, behold, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest came and said, Adonijah, enter, for you are a man of valor and you bring good news.
And Jonathan answered and said, Yes indeed, our lord King David has made Solomon king.
And the king sent with him Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet and Benaiah son of Jehoiada and the Cherethite and the Pelethite, and they made him sit on the king’s mule.
And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anointed him as king in Gihon, and they went up from there rejoicing, and this city was made to resound with the voice that you heard.
And Solomon sat on the throne of the kingdom
And the servants of the king went in to bless our lord the king David, saying, May God make the name of Solomon your son better than your name, and may he make his throne greater than your throne. And the king bowed himself on his bed.
And indeed thus the king said: Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, who has given today from my offspring one sitting on my throne, and my eyes are seeing it.
And all the invited men of Adonijah were astonished, and they rose up and went away, each man on his way.
And Adonias was afraid because of the presence of Solomon, and he arose and went away and laid hold of the horns of the altar
And it was reported to Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonias fears King Solomon, and he is holding of the horns of the altar, saying, Let King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death by the sword.
And Solomon said, If he shall become a son of might, not one of his hairs shall fall to the ground; and if evil be found in him, he shall be put to death.
And King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from above the altar, and he entered and did obeisance to King Solomon, and said to him, Solomon, come to your house.
